Frequently Asked Questions
Hopefully this page will be able to answer any questions you may have. If not please feel free to contact me, and I will try my best to help. Thank you.
Q. Can I get a copy of an image free of charge?
A. If you are a Team or Club Manager, Principle or Representative, an Event Organiser or Press, then I may consider supplying some images free of charge on an exceptional basis, providing a credit is given to all images used. These images will be low resolution and will come with a watermark. On very specific, rare occasions I will supply the original image without a watermark.
Q. If I buy an image from your website, will the watermark be on the image?
A. No, this is removed at the time of download, printing etc.
Q. Why do you charge for images?
A. I don't photograph events for the money, I do it to help promote competative cycling in the UK in anyway I can. In the 2011 season I didn't charge for any image, however to cover some costs of my website, travel, accommodation etc, and in line with most other race photographers I ask a small charge for images.
Q. Your Calendar said you would be at an event but you didn't arrive, why?
A. I don't do photography as a profession, its a hobby. Sometimes I will decide I cannot attend an event, or that there are other more suitable options. This doesn't happen often, and as soon as I am aware of plans changing I will update the Calendar. If I have had contact with you directly confirming I will attend an event, then I will be there, regardless.
Q. If I buy a downloadable image, can I use it on Facebook, Twitter etc.
A. Images bought for Personal Use cannot be used for advertising, or making a profit. However, Personal Use images can be used on personal or amateur club facebook pages, twitter, websites etc. Please remember that if you buy an image you buy a copy of that image, NOT the rights to the image. If you steal an image, or misuse an image, I will consider action through the small claims court to recover money owed.
Q. What is the difference between a Personal Use Licence and a Commercial License for downloads?
A. If you are buying a download image for yourself, to use on your own Social Media pages, a personal or amateur club website, blog etc or to keep for yourself, then you need to buy a download with a Personal Use License, however if you are buying for publication, or to use on a professional team or sponsor Social Media pages, blogs or websites, then you need to buy a download with a Commercial Use License. If you are in any doubt you can click on the question mark for the License agreement and it will detail what each License covers. Please make sure you buy a download with the correct License for your use.
